Cheatsheet_ Symply Pro LTO

Introduction:

At CineArk, currently our only LTO drive is the Symply Pro LTO. This unit is a lightweight and affordable option which is very easy to set up.

Required:

  • Symply Pro LTO Drive

  • Test Tape

  • Cleaning Tape

  • Thunderbolt Cable

  • Computer

  • Yoyotta

Set Up:

  1. Plug the LTO drive into the Mac via the Thunderbolt Cable

  2. Download and install Yoyotta

  3. Install SYMPLYATOM Drivers

  4. Install Macfuse

  5. Log In

  6. Hit Install License

  7. Place your test tape into the drive

  8. On Yoyotta, click on LFTS

  9. Once the drive has loaded, press mount

  10. Press Format

  11. Disable Compression

  12. Enter a name for the tape.

 1. I use TST001.
  1. It may ask you to confirm, please continue.

  2. Now we will test the writing, to do so navigate close LTFS and select the + in the top left hand corner. This is our source.

  3. Choose Other…

  4. Select a testing file, this can be anything.

  5. Select the top right hand corner +, this is our destination.

  6. Select your test drive and click on the green arrow to start the transfer.

  7. Done!

Cleaning The LTO Drive:

You may find the LTO drive's LED are displaying a C icon. This means that the drive requires cleaning. This is a very easy process.

  1. Place a cleaning tape into the drive

  2. Let it do it's thing, it will eject on it's own when it is ready

It is important to not over do this and only to do this when asked to.
