Transmitters

Transmitter (TX) / Receiver (RX) — receives image and transmits it (usually DIT receives from set and transmits to video assist).

Range

  • Small units (Eagles and Nanos): about 200m

  • Large setups (8-ways, DC Pros, large antennas, etc.): about 1/2 km

Standard package

Unless specifically told differently, a single transmitter package should include:

  • 1 × TX package

  • 1 × RX package

  • 1 × DC Pro package (unless they have an HHRX)

1 × DC Pro package includes 4 downconverters — so if you have 2 × TX and 2 × RX, you still only need 1 × DC Pro package.

OFCOM / frequency licences

When quoting for an OFCOM transmitter package you must use our special Transmitter Standard Quote – Stationary (this does not include Teradeks).

This tells production they must purchase the frequencies required to use the transmitters:

PLEASE NOTE: When hiring long range transmitters for use in the UK, frequency licences need to be purchased for each transmitter. This can be done through the Ofcom website for UK in advance of shoot days. Please check locally if outside the UK. We can provide a ‘How to’ guide: https://pmse.ofcom.org.uk/pmse/Ecom/LoginPage.aspx

Transmitters we stock

Teradek

BOLT 1000 LT/XT (RX only) / BOLT 3000 XT / BOLT 4K 1500 LT / BOLT 6

  • Runs on Wi-Fi frequency spectrum (usually for small productions / studio work)

  • Cheapest TX/RX we do

  • Standard Teradek package: 1 × TX & 1 × RX + 1 × Sidekick RX

  • Teradek TX can only go out with Teradek RX

  • Array panel always goes FOC per package

  • Does not require an OFCOM licence

Model notes

  • BOLT 1000 XT — 2 × SDI out, 3D LUT capable, cross conversion, 5G spectrum analyzer, manual channel selection

  • BOLT 3000 (old) updated to BOLT 3000 XT — same capabilities as 1000 XT but ~3× increased range (Bolt 3K range is cross-compatible with Bolt 3K XT range)

  • BOLT 4K 1500 LT — 4K functionality relies on HDMI in/out (HD only when running on SDI)

  • BOLT 6 1500 LT — compatible with 6G Wi-Fi spectrum; only model that requires its own type of antenna

    • LT: 1 × SDI out, no cross conversion

    • Can pair with up to 6 × RX

    • 4K RXs are compatible with Bolt 6 TXs but not compatible with the 6GHz Wi-Fi spectrum

  • Bolt 6 MAX — we have a couple but not many. Difference vs 6 LT: Bolt 6 MAX has 12G (LT does not) — 4K over SDI only

Ark NanoPro XT

CineArk exclusive dual-band TX (Nano / short-range + long-range in one).

Do not mention “Teradek” to production/crew. Say short-range side & long-range side, or Wi-Fi & COFDM.

Has two chips:

  1. Short-range side — for the focus puller within close range; zero delay, uncompressed picture

  2. COFDM side — for longer range

    • Very robust picture up to ~1km from the camera without additional kit

    • 8-bit H.264 encoding

Eagle

Eagle V2 LT Pro / Eagle V3 XT Pro / Eagle V4 Pro

  • COFDM licensed

  • Same tech used by broadcast and live sports

  • Ultra-low latency

  • HD images

Pricing

  • Daily price: £350

  • RoS package pricing: £320/day on a three-day week

  • RoS Play 'n' Pay: £320/day on a three-day week

Helios (Rogue Waves)

  • COFDM licensed

  • Does not have a short-range link for the focus puller, but provides better image quality than an Eagle

  • 10-bit HEVC encoding

  • Ultra long range

  • Low delay

  • Helios TX can only go out with Helios RX

Helios 4K package must include these TX & RX — search with tag: RF package 4K

Nano / Eagle receivers we stock

  • HHRX (handheld receiver) — portable; loved by focus pullers

  • DTC 4-Way

  • DTC 8-Way

Pairing rules

  • 1 × TX = 1 × 4-way RX

  • 8-way RX means there are 2 RX points, so you can have 2 screens at once (2 streams)

  • 2 × TX = 1 × 8-way RX

  • Can be rack-mounted to reduce space

Licensed transmitters must be matched with licensed receivers.

All Helios UFTXs and Helios Ultra 8s have the capacity to be licensed, but we only have a certain number of licences. If you need more, speak to kit room who can organise one.
